Aunt Bessie’s has introduced five ready meals into the frozen food market, following the successful launch of Aunt Bessie’s Cottage Pie.

The new five-strong range comprises two giant Yorkshire pudding meals – one filled with sausage casserole and the other with beef steak in gravy – a chicken stew and a beef stew – both with dumplings – and a minced beef cobbler. Each 450g pack has a rrp of £1.99.

While the £519.6m frozen ready meal sector has seen a value and volume decline in the last 12 months, the traditional sector has grown by 15.4% in value and 16.4% in volume, according to TNS.

John Hendy, commercial director at Tryton Foods, said: “The traditional meals market is the largest sector of the ready meals market.”
