Best Eco-Friendly outlet WiLcomatic

Not only did Spar Bluebell Way in Preston, Lancashire win the award for Best Site with a Licence to Sell Alcohol but it scooped the Best Eco-Friendly Outlet award to boot.

Energy efficient measures include lighting and refrigeration programmed to use energy when needed. All fridges are fitted with glass, reducing daily consumption of one dairy cabinet from almost 100kw per day to less than 40kw. A specialist refrigeration pack takes waste heat from the dairy cabinets and redirects it to the air conditioning system, and special ecological film on freezer doors saves an amount equal to the energy used boiling a kettle for two and half hours a day every day. Kevin Pay, managing director of sponsor Wilcomatic, who is pictured far right with (l-r) host Mark Durden-Smith, winner Michelle Hall and colleague Jane Fowler, said: "Rainwater harvesting and recycling for wash facilities is excellent with a good point made on retention of water from a storm water management system."

Food-to-go Outlet - sponsor Burger King

Euro Garages’ Blackford Bridge forecourt in Bury, Lancashire wowed the judges with its impressive food-to-go offer. Located on the A56 commuter route from Bury to Manchester, the site underwent a complete refurbishment in 2009 and, following a ground-breaking deal with bakery retailer Greggs, Blackford Bridge became the first petrol forecourt in the UK to have a branded Greggs outlet on site.

With its extensive range of Greggs products, including baked savoury goods as well as cakes and pastries, the food-to-go outlet opened to great fanfare, and benefited from press coverage, giving the site a good boost.

best Forecourt Facilities - sponsor Dresser Wayne

The philosophy behind Donald Logue’s Toomey Rochford Filling Station in Southend-on-Sea, Essex has the customer at its heart. "We are very fortunate in that the forecourt is a new build so it was designed from scratch incorporating as many facilities that are best for the customer," says Donald.

The site has an expansive, well-lit forecourt with the largest canopy in Britain. Says Donald: "Customers have commented on our facilities in mystery shopping visits. We have an immense canopy that provides very good weather protection. The forecourt is nice, safe, secure and well lit, and we have lots of parking, which I know mothers with children like. We want to make customers feel comfortable in the environment."

Other facilities include 18 pumps dispensing a full range of fuels including LPG, an ATM, and an automated car with vacuum and tyre pressure machines. Comprehensive CCTV camera coverage is linked to an ANPR system.
