A forecourt flasher who was caught running naked from a petrol station after terrifying a woman driver has been convicted.
According to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, Lucy Fairclough, prosecuting at Northampton Crown Court yesterday, said businessman Shaun Lovesey, aged 46, was repeatedly seen between midnight and 1am by women drivers filling up with fuel at Tesco’s petrol station in Mereway, Northampton.
Two women using the petrol station reported seeing him exposing himself at the petrol station at about midnight on November 4 and a week later, he was seen again, standing on a grass verge, again exposing himself and performing a sex act.
Another woman driver saw him naked at 1am on November 24 and two days later he was there again at 12.30am.
Fairclough said that when one woman called at the filling station on November 26, the police had already been alerted. As Lovesey ran towards her car while naked, she jumped in and tried to drive off but he blocked her way, still performing a sex act. A Police officer caught Lovesey running naked towards a service road.
Lovesey, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to four exposure offences and asked for a similar offence, committed on October 23 at Tesco, to be considered. He was sentenced to a three-year community order, with sex offender treatment, and will be subject to a three-month 7.30pm to 6am curfew. He is banned from Tesco in Mereway and surrounding underpasses for the next three years.
Representing himself, Lovesey apologised for the upset and distress he caused to his victims. He added: “I’m deeply sorry. It’s never happened before and it will never happen again. If I work with the Probation Service on a 36-month course, it will make sure it will never happen again. I’ve always been an upstanding member of the community.”
