Sunday trading changes

Local shops are calling on MPs and Peers to oppose legislation introduced to remove Sunday Trading restrictions across England and Wales this summer.

The Bill, which was introduced in the House of Lords on March 28, was signalled by the Chancellor in the Budget and is subject to a ’fast-track’ process. It means the Bill is expected to complete its passage through Parliament in just two days.

Asda fuel-price checker

Asda has launched a new petrol price comparison site powered by independent price checker www.PetrolPrices.com, to enable UK drivers to find the lowest-priced fuel before they fill up. The supermarket aims to save drivers millions of pounds at the pumps by publishing the highest, lowest and average prices in the 195 towns in which it operates a filling station.

Site opening for Jos

Goole-based family business Jos Richardson & Son has re-opened Longs Corner Service Station in Howden, Yorkshire, bringing its network of sites up to five.

The company purchased the site in November 2011, and has spent the past three months re-developing it into a much larger BP filling station and Spar convenience store.

Buoyant Brookfield

Top 50 Indie, the Batley-based Brookfield group, shone at the Convenience Retail Awards, organised by Forecourt Trader sister publications The Grocer and Convenience Store. It won the ’Excellence in impulse’ award, and was a finalist in the multiple c-store category.

Success for Duns

Duns Service Station in Scotland has been named winner of Jet’s annual ’Aim4success’ awards, which recognise dealers’ commitment to providing high levels of service, safety, training and communication.
