Police are appealing for witnesses after an armed robbery at a Jet forecourt in Longton, Staffordshire on Wednesday morning.

At around 5.10am two men entered the Jet station on Lightwood Road and threatened a member of staff with what appeared to be a handgun.

They then stole money and left via the back door. The staff member, a woman in her 30s, was uninjured but left shaken by the incident.

The offenders were two men who had scarves and hoodies covering their faces.

The petrol station remained closed until just after 10am while a detailed forensic examination was carried out.

Chief Inspector Mark Dean, Stoke-on-Trent South Local Policing Team Commander, said: "We believe the offenders were waiting nearby for the petrol station to open and they then followed staff back inside. One of them had a handgun but it is not known if this was a real or imitation weapon.

“It would appear the offenders planned this and carried out the offence at a time of day when there were not many people around.”
