A Co-operative Food petrol station near Bournemouth has had to be evacuated after a car drove into one of the fuel pumps.

Fire crews were called to the petrol station at 6.30 this morning after a 26-year-old female driver hit the pumps at the service station, on the westbound A31 at Ringwood, in her Ford Fiesta.

On arrival at the site, emergency service crews found there was no fire, although the accident had caused some spillage from the pumps.

They helped the driver and her passenger from the car, which has now been recovered. The driver suffered a minor neck injury and was also treated for shock.

A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food said: “Petrol forecourt engineers are now on site removing the damaged pump. The store and forecourt will remain closed until this work is carried out and we are able to sell petrol again, hopefully later today. We apologise to customers for any inconvenience.”
