Costco wins consent
Costco has won planning permission for its first UK petrol station. It has been granted consent for a petrol filling station at its Liverpool site, and said it will open within 12 months.
Price comparison app
The AA is launching a smartphone price comparison app which it claims will enable its members to find the cheapest fuel in their area.
It said the tool is needed because motorists are facing a postcode lottery with some petrol retailers failing to pass on lower wholesale prices, while others forecourts in nearby locations do.
HMRC seizes alcohol
An HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) taskforce is cracking down on sales of illegal alcohol in Scotland.
More than 40 officers from HMRC, South Lanarkshire Trading Standards and the police visited premises in South Lanarkshire and Glasgow, and a total of 1,570 litres of beer, 1,880 litres of wine and 1,282 litres of spirits were seized during the operation.
WPC drops injury case
A Norfolk petrol retailer who was being sued by a policewoman who injured herself on his forecourt during a call-out, has welcomed her decision to drop the case. Steve Jones, the owner of Nun’s Bridges Service Station, said the decision was "a victory for common sense" and said he hoped he could now put the incident behind him.
Illegal fuel plant raided
An illegal fuel factory in Northern Ireland capable of laundering and packing an estimated 24 million litres of diesel a year, has been dismantled by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The suspected laundering operation was discovered when HMRC officers and police raided a farm in the Mayobridge area.
