A heart defibrillator has been installed at a Top 50 Indie site after it helped the local community raise funds for the equipment

It has been installed at the Hazlegrove Service Station and Spar store on the A303 at Sparkford, Somerset, which is open 24 hours a day and is owned by Chartman Group .

The machine cost over £1,000 and staff at the service station earlier this year hosted a fundraising car wash, offering ‘free’ car washes in return for donations towards the cost of the defibrillator.

Local watch co-ordinator Bill Westcott said: “We have over 15 people trained in CPR and defibrillator plus 10 Neighbourhood watch contacts who are willing to fetch and carry. This is an age of increasing self-help and it is felt that even one life saved will be more than worth the cost of a defibrillator. It will provide an added sense of security and confidence in this area.”
