A man has been charged in connection with the stabbing at the BP service station in Downfields near Soham, Cambridgeshire, owned by Top 50 Indie MRH.

The 48-year-old from Soham has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

The victim, a 23-year-old man, had suffered a serious but not life threatening injury and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Police were called to the service station in Fordham Road at around 2.20pm on Thursday September 5, after receiving reports that a man had been stabbed inside the site’s Spar store.

It is believed a customer was standing by the sandwich chiller when an older man walked up to him and stabbed him in the side.

The injured man went to the till for help and his assailant dropped the knife and waited in the aisle until the police arrived. A police spokesman said a 48-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Parkside Police Station in Cambridge.

An air ambulance attended the site within 10 minutes and the injured man was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, with serious, but not life threatening injuries.
