It’s not even Christmas and the confectionery companies are unveiling their ranges for Easter 2006. First off the blocks is Nestlé Rowntree and the big news for independents is a mixed outer of its filled eggs.

The new mixed outers contain the Nestlé Double Cream filled egg, which was the second best selling filled egg last Easter; the Smarties filled egg and the Milkybar one. The outers contain 28 of each egg and have a rrp of £27.36, which offers retailers a great saving as they’d usually have to pay £54.72 for individual outers of each egg.

Nestlé Rowntree’s sales communications manager Graham Walker says there are two peaks in filled egg sales: “The first is in January when the eggs are first available and the second is two weeks before Easter. To ensure they benefit from both these peaks, retailers should stock filled eggs straight after Christmas right up until Easter.”
