Tidel sales director Godfried Hendriks said: "The Sentinel BCD will help reduce internal theft and robbery risk and at the same time save a lot of cash handling time, assuring a return on investment in less than a year. With cash, everything must be checked but it is time-consuming and can take up to two hours; it's also dangerous if people know you have stacks of cash on your desk. Our system protects against this."

The Sentinel BCD accepts both notes and coins but once notes are put in they cannot be taken back out by anyone except the cash-in-transit company. However there is a facility for coins to be released. Variable amounts of pre-sorted coins can be withdrawn at the touch of a button.

The system was designed around a scalable software architecture written in Windows CE running an Xscale processor.
