Independent forecourt firm Avon Retail, which last year opened a new-to-sector site in Castleford, is proposing to rejuvenate a spot of wasteland in Pontefract, West Yorks, that historically traded as a filling station.
Planning documents submitted to Wakefield Council indicate the site, which is surrounded by residential properties, operated as a forecourt in the 1990s, having since fallen into a state of dilapidation.
Avon is proposing to rejuvenate the 0.58-acre plot, building a 3,000sq ft glass-fronted shop served by 14 parking bays and facing four pump islands fed by two underground tanks. Around 10 full-time jobs would be created by the scheme.
Three EV charging bays and a pair of jet-wash spots also feature in the proposals, which Avon Retail’s planning agent says will “bring jobs, amenity and access which will represent a positive contribution to the local area”.
