A new EV charging hub is to be built in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, on a plot of land that sits between two retail parks, and is close to two major tranport routes in the city. The land is currently used as a hand car wash.
In August 2025 a planning application was submitted to Peterborough City Council to convert ‘Bubbles’ car wash into a 10-bay ultra-rapid charging hub served by five Alpitronic Hyperchargers.
The council has now granted permission for the development, which is being led by Leeds-based property firm Moreco Investments.
The charging station will be open on a 24-hour basis and be monitored by CCTV, while five small canopies will cover each of the chargers.
The plot sits between the Boulevard, and the Maskew Avenuie retail parks, while also being near the Parkway Sports and Social Club. The site is approximately two miles from Peterborough’s city-centre railway station and is accessed by the A15 main road. Once built, the charging station will also be a stone’s throw from the A47 trunk road that passes Peterborough as it runs east-west from Lowestoft to Birmingham.
