The man officers are seeking

Officers from Merseyside Police are appealing for information following an assault that left a forecourt employee temporarily blind and facing “permanent or long-term damage” to their eye.

On Saturday, March 7 a man entered the BP filling station on Leasowe Road in Wallasey, Wirral, and demanded his phone be charged.

Shortly after acquiescing to this, staff informed the man they needed the charging cable back to power the store’s tablets, at which point he became aggressive, pushed over shop displays and damaged store equipment.

After a staff member intervened the man punched him in the eye, causing temporary blindness and blurred vision, alongside what police describe as “significant” bruising and swelling.

Officers reviewed CCTV footage from the store and are appealing for help identigying the man pictured.

Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel described the incident as “a nasty assault which left the victim with an injury to his eye which may cause permanent or long-term damage.

“Please be assured that our enquiries continue to find the suspect, as such behaviour will not be tolerated.”

DI Rexwinkel added: “I am also appealing to the man featured in the image, or anyone who recognises him, to come forward. We believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.”
