Fairlee Service Station from Newport on the Isle of Wight was revealed as the Best GB Oils site at Superstation 2012, GB Oils’ inaugural forecourt standards competition.

Open to all GB-supplied independent petrol retailers, the finalists were selected following judging by the event sponsors and GB Oils’ management team, and were announced in true Hollywood style at The Belfry, the celebrated Ryder Cup venue near Birmingham.

Among the success stories on the night were Royal Parade Stores of Hindhead who took home the prestigious ‘Best Pace-branded Site’ and St Blazey of Cornwall, winners of ‘Best Gulf Site’.

Meanwhile, Stevensons of Oxbridge, Stockton-on-Tees, won two awards; ‘Best Shop’ and ‘Best Total Site’. Operator John Stevenson has transformed his business over the past two years, undertaking a complete knockdown-rebuild which included the introduction of a 3000 square foot Nisa mini supermarket and 4-pump forecourt layout. His shop takings have increased seven-fold.

“We have had a brilliant day.  I never thought that we would be a winner so to take home two awards is quite something,” said John Stevenson. ”This has been a five-year project and few people could see my vision for the site. One person who did was our GB Oils area manager, Colin Proudlock, so it was a great thrill that he and my father, who took a similarly bold decision in the mid 80s, were here to share this moment.”

Ramsay MacDonald, retail director GB Oils, congratulated all of the finalists for being industry ‘torch bearers’ and setting the highest standards of service and presentation.

”We now have a new annual date in the industry calendar with Superstation and we know from the response of the dealers and sponsors that everyone will be looking to win the competition next year. This further demonstrates both the scale and ambition of GB Oils to help and promote the independent sector and our ambitions to propel the Gulf brand and our retail business to become the partner of choice for all dealers in all parts of the UK. We will continue to work harder to help dealers and gain their trust and respect.”
