A man who held up a BP petrol station in Coventry has been given a three-year custodial sentence.
Oliver Mellors, 29 and from Coventry, entered the forecourt on Stonebridge Highway at 4am on 12 April this year disguised with a facemask and hood.
He drew a knife with a three-inch blade from his sleeve before demanding money from the cashier, who was left “very afraid” by the robbery, Coventry Live reports.
Mellor then grabbed cash from the till and fled the scene, before discarding his gloves and an item of clothing in bushes on a road a couple of miles away, with police linking these to him with DNA evidence.
On 9 June Mellor handed himself in to a local police station and subsequently pleaded guilty to robbery, and possession of a bladed weapon. Warwick Crown Court heard he robbed the forecourt to fund his drug habit, with his lawyer saying he was “embarrassed and ashamed” of his actions.
