A 38-year-old man has been charged with robbery following an incident at a forecourt in Kirkby, Merseyside, which saw staff members assaulted.
Kevin Scott Burke, of no fixed address, is alleged to have been one of three masked men who entered a Texaco forecourt on Gale Road at 6:40am on 24 July.
One of the men forced his way behind the shop counter and demanded cash from the till, while another stole cigarettes and a third held a bag that was filled with goods.
During the robbery two staff members were punched in the head, and one was thrown to the floor.
Burke has been charged with robbery and was remanded in custody.
Detective Inspector Steven O’Neill from Merseyside Police commented: “Retail staff should be able to turn up for work without the fear of being threatened, abused or assaulted.
“We take all reports of retail crime seriously and will not tolerate incidents which leave people who live and work in our communities in fear.
“Shop theft not only directly affects those people working, it can impact consumers when businesses increase prices in an effort to recoup lost revenue.”
