A 19-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent is beginning a custodial sentence in a young offender’s institution following a late night forecourt robbery that left a staff member “shaken and scared”.
William Shaw was sentenced to two years and four months following the incident, which took place at 1:30am on September 11, 2025 in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Shaw entered the site and assaulted the petrol station worker before stealing beer and pastries. Police were called, and when officers arrived Shaw kicked one and spat in their face.
He admitted robbery and resisting arrest, and was ordered to pay a £228 surcharge upon his release from custody.
Detective Constable Carla Statham comments: “This was a violent robbery which left the victim understandably shaken and scared in their place of work.
“I am glad Shaw has been handed a period of detention for his offending and hope that this shows how we will continue to do all we can to pursue individuals who are intent on causing alarm and distress in our communities.”
