Plans from MFG to remove a jet-wash and install a 1,000sq ft Burger King ‘pod’ at a forecourt in Cornwall have met with objections from local councillors, with one branding the firm’s proposals “ludicrous”.
The firm wants to add the new facility, alongside additional parking bays, to a Morrisons petrol station in Liskeard. While Cornwall Council’s planning officer has recommended the project be given the green light, councillors from Liskeard Town Council have objected to the proposals, with one describing adding a Burger King to the site as “ludicrous” and another warning that doing so would present a “serious hazard”, the Cornish Times reports.
The councillors’ objections relate to the fact that the access road for the supermarket and forecourt becomes heavily congested with traffic, and the addition of a fast-food restaurant would increase car journeys.
MFG, meanwhile, estimates that most visitors to the Burger King would be stopping at the supermarket or forecourt anyway.
Liskeard Town Council has asked Cornwall Council, which has the final say on the project, to send the matter to its planning committee for full consideration rather than councillors deciding it themselves under delegated powers.
