RMI Petrol has appointed property firm Barber Wadlow as advisers to its members in all property-related matters.

The property advisory service is due to be launched by the RMI on October 7 and will enable its members to access Barber Wadlow’s wide knowledge and expertise.

Services will range from acquisition and disposal advice, through to valuation (for all purposes), handling landlord and tenant matters and development advice to maximise value.

Brian Madderson, chairman of RMI Petrol, said: “We believe the length and breadth of their experience will assist our members greatly. Barber Wadlow assisted the RMI in securing reductions to rateable values (RVs) for petrol filling stations nationwide (10%-25% saving for UK forecourts and c-stores) following negotiations with the VOA and the government, and we are pleased to have them on board to assist our members further.”

Adam Wadlow, partner at Barber Wadlow, said: “We are very proud and privileged to be associated with a longstanding establishment such as the RMI. Whilst we do already work for a lot of RMI members, a formal relationship will ensure that all members can tap into our services as and when required.

As a boutique firm with over 30 years of genuine market experience in the fuel retailing sector, we are well placed to advise retailers as the trading environment becomes increasingly competitive and sophisticated.”

Barber Wadlow is already working closely with the RMI in respect of the 2015 Business Rates Revaluation for petrol filling stations. While still some way off, there is a pressing need to compile evidence to ensure that forecourts are not subject to further inequitable rates increases. A questionnaire will be going out to all members in the next month.
