The AA has paired up with chargepoint mapping firm Zapmap, with AA members now able to see chargepoint locations, pricing and availability when using the firms app. The companies say they are also “exploring new ways they can combine” in order to encourage the uptake of EVs.
The AA’s app already offers users fuel-price data as well as a route-planning facility, with the addition of chargepoint information set to reduce the number of EV-driving members whose cars run out of battery, an issue behind 1.85% of all AA callouts.
Nick Edwards, the AA’s chief digital officer, said: “Our role is to create confidence for drivers and we know from our research that prospective and current EV drivers want more certainty about where they can charge. The Zapmap partnership delivers this.
Richard Bourne, Zapmap’s chief executive CEO of Zapmap added: “The AA will now be able to show its customers all types of chargers from high-powered en-route chargers, to destination chargers where you can charge while you stop, to near home charging for those who do not have access to off-street charging. Having clear visibility of all these options helps make the next wave of EV drivers confident to make the switch.”
