EG On The Move has ambitious plans for the former Applegreen forecourt

Plans to comprehensively redevelop a petrol station in Telford, Shropshire, have been submitted to the local authority by EG On The Move (EGOTM).

The forecourt, which was built in 1989, is located on the A5223 to the north of the town, and was bought by EGOTM from Applegreen at the beginning of the year, with the new owners having big plans for the site.

Planning documents reveal EGOTM intends to demolish and remove the existing canopy, pumps and shop, as well as a separate Greggs building, replacing them with a brand-new forecourt.

If permission for the project is granted, the new facility will conform to the established EG On The Move design paradigm, with four pump islands facing a large shop fronted by parking spaces, and featuring glass walls, wood cladding and a sloping roof.

This upgrade will see a significant growth in retail space, with the current kiosk and Greggs comprising a combined 1,485sq ft, and the new shop set to cover a little over 4,000sq ft.

Food to go will be offered in the new building, while three 75,000-litre underground tanks will take care of fuel provision. Electric car driving EG customers will be catered for by four ultra-rapid charging points.

EGOTM’s planners say the current setup “does not provide the level of facilities that could be reasonably expected from a modern roadside services facility”, and that the firm’s proposals “comprise a significant upgrade of the existing facility”.
