BP Pulse has applied for planning permission for a mixed commercial development comprising an EV charging hub with a McDonald’s, with drive-through, at St James Avenue in Paisley.
The hub would comprise 12 ultra-fast chargepoints with a 377sq m McDonald’s with associated drive-through. The application also lists associated access, parking, servicing and landscaping. BP Pulse says the chargers would offer customers up to an 80% charge in 15-20 minutes.
“The proposal will provide a high-quality mixed use commercial development in a convenient, accessible location to serve the local community in the north and north-west of Paisley in addition to those travelling along the M8 and those visiting Glasgow airport, both located to the north of the site,” states the application.
The development would utilise an existing unit on a brownfield site.
The McDonald’s would have 36 car parking spaces, including two accessible parking bays, as well as five bicycle stands to house 10 bicycles.
The application says that in addition to serving users of the EV charging hub the McDonald’s would also serve nearby residents and staff employed in nearby businesses as well as other passing trade.
Operational hours have not been finalised but it is likely that BP Pulse and McDonald’s would like to operate 24 hrs a day, seven days a week.
The development would provide 35-40 new jobs, equivalent to 25 full-time jobs within the McDonald’s and significant employment during the construction period.
BP Pulse says it is on track to deliver 100,000 chargepoints globally by 2030, with over 40,000 already rolled out.
