Certas Energy recently upgraded its Alconbury bunkering site

Certas Energy is redeveloping its UK HGV refuelling bunker estate, with an investment of £1.5m to upgrade five sites over the next 12 months.

The company  completed a £500,000 refurbishment of its HGV refuelling bunker in Alconbury in Cambridgeshire in May, the first site to receive the planned upgrades to pumps, pipework, card readers, security, facilities and fuel choices.

Re-opened to the public on May 14, drivers refuelling at Alconbury  now benefit from eight new high-speed fuel nozzles, dispensing up to 120 litres of fuel per minute.

HVO dispensing pumps and associated infrastructure have been introduced at the site, the 17th bunker to offer the fuel across the company’s UK network of 30 sites.

Through a partnership with UK Truck Clean, the company has also invested £80,000 in upgrading the drive-through truck wash on site.

Mike Heaton, head of estate development at Certas Energy, says: “Investment in the existing bunker infrastructure is as important as expanding and building new sites.

“We want to make sure that every location we operate is equipped for the future, including the ability to offer new fuels, while keeping the refuelling process smooth, efficient and comfortable for HGV drivers on UK roads.

“That means modernising fuelling equipment, card readers and improving on-site security measures, such as CCTV, remote monitoring software and hardware fitting anti-fraud devices, whilst maximising uptime of each location.

“We look forward to continuing a phased programme of investment across additional sites throughout the year, building a network that is both fit for today’s demand and ready for the transition ahead.”

Drivers refuelling at Alconbury can expect further upgrades to the on-site shop and a Certas Energy rebrand set to take place in August..

Certas Energy has also expanded its  truckstop network with the addition of two new sites this year, with the facilities and security upgrades from The Stop at The Hollies to be replicated at each location and more truckstops expected to follow.
