An investigation by website Coventry Live has found that the Morrisons forecourt at Holyhead Road, on the Alvis Retail Park in Coventry, has been targeted by fuel thieves 41 times this year with almost £3,500-worth of fuel stolen.
Using Freedom of Information requests, the media outlet discovered that Morrisons was the site most targeted locally by fuel thieves. The Shell site at Whitmore Park was the second most targeted site with £1,086.06 worth of fuel stolen since the beginning of the year.
In third place was RVT Wyken, which has been targeted four times with £94.86-worth of fuel taken, then MPK Foleshill Road ,which has been targeted twice with just over £100-worth of fuel stolen.
Coventry Live reported that since the beginning of the year, West Midlands Police has probed 1,715 reports of bilking, with only six of the offenders charged or summonsed to court. The police force received reports of 68 petrol thefts in Coventry. The highest number of incidents (1,369) was reported in Birmingham. Dudley had the lowest figure with just 22 petrol thefts.
