Fuel deliveries to Prem Uthayakumaran’s Mansfield site have improved but are not perfect

Fuel deliveries from BP have improved for Prem Uthayakumaran, at his Crossroads Service Station in Mansfield – but they are still not perfect.

When Forecourt Trader last spoke to Uthayakumaran at the end of July, delivery issues were so bad that he had to shut his pumps off and he had given BP notice to quit.

Just over one month on, and it seems BP has taken his complaints seriously and tried to rectify the problem.

Uthayakumaran  says: “I’m on special measures with BP which means they are looking after me to some extent. They’re chasing deliveries on my behalf because I haven’t got time to keep chasing. If my site doesn’t get a delivery, the national account manager, the regional manager and the distribution manager all get involved.”

However, on the day Forecourt Trader spoke to Uthayakumaran his delivery had been cancelled and reinstated three times, and he was still waiting for it.

And although he’s got the BP team helping him now, he is worried about how long their help  will last.

Uthayakumaran’s delivery issues started when he switched from Essar to BP 10 months ago and intensified over the summer. He needs regular deliveries because he has smaller tanks at the 1.8mlpa site – he has three tanks totalling 48,000 litres of storage.

The Nottinghamshire site is one of four run by Uthayakumaran and his only one with BP branding.

BP previously told Forecourt Trader: “We always work hard to minimise any disruption for customers. As this concerns an individual commercial relationship, we will not comment on specific correspondence, but we remain focused on working directly with our customers for any concerns they raise.”
