The founders of the EG Group are to be honoured by the local authority in their home town by having a road named after them.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has announced that a new road in Blackburn will be named Issa Way in honour of the Issa brothers.
The multi-million pound highway connects Blackamoor Road to Roman Road, opening up land around Fishmoor Reservoir for housing and other development.
Although the group has grown from a single forecourt site to a group owning thousands of site across Europe, the US and Australia, and the brothers recently took over Asa, the head office of the company is still located in their home town of Blackburn.
Zuber and Mohsin Issa, founders and co-CEOs of EG Group, said: “Our family are extremely honoured and humbled by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s kind consideration. We have always been proud of our local heritage and feel privileged to have been able to grow-up and support the town alongside building an international retail business that has generated much employment, wealth and opportunities for both residents and businesses of the borough and the surrounding areas.”
Other local heroes to get a major highway named after them by Blackburn with Darwen Council include former England footballer Alan Shearer, who played for Blackburn Rovers when they won the Premier League, world superbike champion Carl Fogarty and Lake District fell-walking author Alfred Wainwright.
