Exelby Services has become well known for providing the ‘wow’ factor on its sites – from having a replica of an F1 racing car on the ceiling of its A19 North store to a Red Arrows original Hawk T1 jet at Coneygarth.
Its latest ‘wow’ comes from a fully functioning jukebox at its A19 South site in North Yorkshire.
“It’s just a bit of fun, says Exelby Services managing director Rob Exelby. “At each of our sites, we try to have something unique (Red Arrow jet, F1 car) and this is our USP for A19 South.
“We have an American diner style booth and breakfast bar seating area for our food-to-go customers who might decide to have a more relaxed break/visit to the site. The jukebox adds to the whole American diner vibe and has proved quite popular with some regulars who will put something on when they’re passing through.”
Exelby says the jukebox cost about £10,000. “It wasn’t cheap but it’s a brand new unit complete with speaker system and it’s also linked with our wider shop audio system. So if you want to listen to AC/DC or David Bowie while you’re in the loo or perusing the rest of the shop, you can.”
It’s free to use and Exelby says the regulars love it. “New visitors are always surprised to see it and even more so when we tell them they can pick some tunes to play for free.”
As for the staff, their current favourite tune is Bryan Adams, Summer of ‘69, which Exelby says always seems to get them going.
