Top 50 Indie Karan Retail has acquired its 44th forecourt – the high volume Peggy White’s Newhouse site in Motherwell.
The previous owner James White – who is retiring – made the announcement that the site had changed hands on Facebook yesterday.
He said: “Hi everyone, this will be the last post from the OLD Peggy White’s. The petrol station has been sold and transferred ownership as of the 30th June 2025, I would just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for their continued support over the 82 years supplying the quality service to the public. It’s a really sad end but I wish everyone all the best in your years to come. Watch this space for the transformation and things to come in the future. We wish the new owners all the best of luck and hope they have as much joy and good times as we have had over the 82 years.”
There was plenty of reaction to his comment on Facebook with people asking if the site would keep the name and continue the service they had come to expect.
Visnu Kumaranisanthan, operations manager at Karan Retail, confirmed to Forecourt Trader that the site would keep the Peggy White’s name.
He said: “We are very excited about this site as it’s a big achievement for us as its fuel volume tops 25mlpa. We plan to redevelop it, probably with a knockdown rebuild, but will definitely keep the name as it’s so well known.”
The site is known for its cheap fuel and on Facebook the site is described as a “24hr petrol station who also do workwear, safety footwear and tools”.
Kumaranisanthan confirms that sales of high vis clothing and workmen’s boots are through the roof at the site.
Last October, Peggy White’s switched from Esso to Essar and became the first Essar-branded site in Scotland.
Kumaranisanthan says Karan Retail will switch from Essar to BP, with the store moving from unbranded to a Londis fascia.
