
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have charged a man with arson following a fire on Thursday December 4 at a BP petrol station on Broom Way, Lee-on-the-Solent.
Officers were called to a report of a public order incident at the site at 11.15am, when it was reported that a man had been seen on the forecourt with an axe. A fire then began, which spread to several vehicles and the petrol pumps.
Officers attended, along with colleagues from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire Service and South Central Ambulance Service, and a man was located with burn injuries and taken to hospital for treatment. A dog was also found dead at the scene.
Tyson Charlie Nevin was subsequently arrested and has now been charged with arson with intent to endanger life, arson, threatening a person with a bladed article in a public place, and causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
Nevin appeared at Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on Saturday January 31 and has been remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on Monday March 2.
