Moto has moved another step closer to breaking ground on new motorway services at Junction 16 on the M4.
In February, Wiltshire Council recommended the project go ahead and last week outline planning permission for the proposed £30m scheme was approved. However, further planning approval for the scale, layout, external appearance and landscaping of the site will be needed before Moto can start work.
The firm is planning to build on a 7.3-acre plot near Wootton Bassett. The 24-hour services will feature a 38,000sq ft main amenity building, a petrol station with four pump islands, a separate HGV PFS, 50 EV charging bays, parking for 241 cars and 63 trucks, plus the usual specialised bays for caravans, coaches and motorbikes.
The Junction 16 site would fill a 32-mile gap between Membury Services and Leigh Delamare. The government wants to see HGV rest stops every 14 miles on motorways and services for other drivers no more than 28 miles apart.
