Niza Group has grown to 13 sites with the acquisition of Robinson and Young Service Station, a forecourt and workshop in Wem, Shropshire, described as ripe for investment.

The business, which is north of Shrewsbury, has limited competition in the area and presented an “excellent opportunity” for further development, according to Christie & Co, the property agency which oversaw the sale.

Ben Young and his family had operated the site for over 30 years, growing the business Christie & Co says into an “extensive local amenity” which included a “well-stocked petrol station”, and a workshop and vehicle sales business.

The family decided to sell the site to concentrate on vehicle sales, which they have relocated to another base in the town.

Niza Group, which operates mainly in the south of England under the Texaco, and Nisa and Welcome Co-op banners, was one of multiple businesses to have made an offer.

Niza Group director Visvanathan Ragunathan, known as Ragu, says that he is delighted with the outcome. “We would like to thank Ben and his team for working with us to get the sale over the line.”

He adds: “Ben has built a fantastic business that we want to move even further forward once we have settled in, and have plans to develop the site further.”

Ben Young says that his family felt it was the right time to sell the petrol station to focus on used car sales. “It was a tough decision, as we have really enjoyed serving the customers during our time here and will continue to serve them elsewhere in the town.

“We wish Niza Group all the best with their latest forecourt acquisition and would like to thank Christie & Co for their help to get the deal done.”

Dave Morris, regional director at Christie & Co, and who managed the sale, adds: “The business is very well-known in the town, and is a credit to Ben and his family who have worked hard to offer the best service to customers.”

He adds: “The site is an excellent addition to Niza Group and has helped them to further expand their portfolio across the Midlands.”
