Top 50 Indie Penny on the Move has been recognised as highest climber on a regional listing of top performing businesses.

The Alnwick, Northumberland-based business was 79th in the NET 250, which ranks organisations in the North-East of England by turnover, up from 183rd last year.

Owner and founder David Penny, property manager Tom Penny and chief financial officer Martin Wheller attended the NET 250 award ceremony in Newcastle.

Penny on the Move’s most recent annual sales were £400 million.

Writing on LinkedIn, the company says: “We’re incredibly proud to have won this award and incredibly proud to be part of the North-East business community, which demonstrated such energy and optimism at the event this morning. We all really are, on the move!”

Car maker Nissan, which has a plant in Sunderland, was named the largest business in the NET 250, with Dame Irene Hays, chair of Hays Travel, British Engines, and Go-Ahead Group among those also winning accolades.
