Top 50 Indie Sewell on the go has become the latest retailer to join mobile app Gander to enable its customers to snap up reduced-priced foods and mitigate food waste.
Its stores on Chanterlands Avenue and in Cottingham are the first to be integrated with the app.
Sarah Watson, sales manager at Sewell on the go, said: “As a business, we’re excited to work with Gander. The colourful app makes it easy for users to find discounted products that could otherwise be wasted. It’s helping customers save money and supports our sustainability goals by reducing waste – a win-win.
“We know in today’s climate, with the rising cost of living, that it’s really important for our customers to save money. The Gander app shows users any items that we’ve reduced before coming into the store, making bargains really easy to find. Gander is a brilliant app – it helps us to reduce food waste and become more sustainable whilst connecting with our customers from the comfort of their home.”
Speaking on the new partnership, Gander’s head of customer engagement and business development, Stacey Williams, said: “We are delighted to be extending the implementation of Gander across the UK and through working with Sewell on the go we will continue our mission to reduce food waste.
“With seamless integration, retailers have no down time and shoppers can instantly start saving on their weekly shop.”
Customers can download Gander onto their smartphones, and it will highlight reduced-to-clear food items on shelves near their homes in real time.
Williams added: “Instead of reaching relatively few customers who happen to be in the store at the time the products are nearing the end of their shelf-life, Gander has the potential to reach thousands of people in the local vicinity of Chanterlands Avenue and Cottingham, allowing shoppers to nip in and bag a bargain, while enabling retailers to vastly cut their food waste.
“Engagement with the app from retailers and shoppers alike has been positive and we hope to continue building upon our new relationship with Sewell on the go.”
