North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an attempted ram raid at Wetherby Services at junction 46 of the A1(M), at 2am on Wednesday, July 29.
Detectives say a black vehicle, believed to be an older-model Nissan Juke, was driven into the services through doors near the M&S Food store. The vehicle was then used to repeatedly ram a standalone ATM.
Four men wearing face coverings and gloves were involved. Two of the suspects then attached what is believed to have been a chain to an “&PLAY” cash payout machine, which was pulled free using the vehicle. The machine was loaded into the rear of the Nissan Juke.
A Nissan Juke has since been recovered in the Leeds area. The vehicle had been set on fire and the stolen cash machine was found inside.
Officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, saw the Nissan Juke travelling between Wetherby and Leeds between 1am and 5am, or has any information that could assist the investigation.In particular, detectives would like to identify and speak to three men who may have witnessed the incident and could hold information relevant to enquiries. They are urged to come forward as soon as possible.
The police say they believe these men are witnesses and not involved in the offence. Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
