The site as it was in 2022, prior to reconstruction by Asda

A new Asda forecourt in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, is due to open this year, having sat vacant since construction was completed in 2024.

Mount View Garage was previously a Murco site, and was one of hundreds of filling stations purchased by Asda since 2023.

Planning permission to redevelop the site had been granted by East Lindsey District Council in 2022, but while the project was subsequently completed, the new facility has yet to dispense a single litre of fuel, having sat behind padlocked gates for the past year or so.

Now, following enquiries from local residents and councillors, Asda has confirmed to the BBC that the site will open this year.

The firm told the broadcaster: “Having acquired and opened more than 470 stores since 2023, we’re now looking forward to opening more stores across the UK later this year, including in Horncastle.”

Planning documents reveal the site features three pump islands served by two 55,000-litre tanks and a 4,000sq ft shop with around 2,500sq ft of retail space. Parking for 27 cars is also offered, as is a jet-wash facility and an Amazon lockers.
