EG On The Move’s reputation for winning planning bids for new-to-sector sites was further bolstered this week, with the firm being given the go ahead to build a new petrol station plus drive-thru Starbucks on land just north of Hartlepool, in North Yorkshire.
The firm intends to begin work on the site this year with a view to opening the roadside services in 2027. As well as the forecourt and Starbucks, four EV charging bays will be installed, while the 5,200sq ft petrol station shop will host a Greggs concession, creating 24 full-time equivalent jobs spread over 41 roles.
EGOTM’s latest project is part of a wider redevelopment plan for the Queens Meadow Business Park, which is in contention to be named a nationally recognised ‘AI Growth Zone’ by the government.
Objections to the plans were made by a number of locals, with one business owner whose offices sit just 1.5m from the proposed forecourt boundary, concerned that fumes from refuelling vehicles would enter his premises via open windows.
The planning authority, Hartlepool Development Corporation, ruled in EGOTM’s favour.
