The franchise agreement between EG On The Move (EGOTM) and Co-op announced in 2024 has brought forth another partnership, with a refreshed site in Chelmsford, Essex, sporting an updated shop wearing the convenience retailer’s livery.
The deal was originally to see seven EGOTM sites feature franchised Co-op stores, but this was later extended to encompass 10 forecourts, while the revamp of the Norton Heath shop on Chelmsford Road brings the number to 11.
The forecourt itself was acquired by the Top 50 Indie as part of a 2025 deal that saw the firm take on 98 Applegreen sites, and the station’s new store is part of a redevelopment programme that will also see EV charging and a Greggs concession added.
The new convenience offering features food-to-go, bakery and chilled products, plus a self-service Starbucks machine.
EG On The Move chief executive Zuber Issa says he is delighted to bring Co-op to Norton Heath, and hinted more EGOTM locations are set to adopt the retailer’s offering, adding: “We look forward to continuing to grow our successful relationship with Co-op to enhance the convenience store offer aligned to our forecourts and create a fuel and food destination.”
Michael Hargreaves, Co-op’s head of forecourt franchise, says: “We aim to create a destination, a hub locally with Norton Heath’s service station focussed on meeting the fuel and food needs of motorists and those who live in the surrounding area.
He adds: “Co-op is scaling its franchise business by sharing its convenience expertise with quality partners, and we look forward to identifying more locations for joint growth with EG On The Move where we can create further compelling forecourt and convenience food sites together. We are delighted to have the opportunity to serve the Norton Heath community.”
