The new devices can deliver electricity at up to 400kW

Extra’s Leeds Skelton Lake Services by J45 of the M1 has received an EV boost with the installation of 10 new ultra-rapid EV charging bays.

The five new twin-lead 400kW devices are courtesy of Extra’s longstanding partnership with Ionity, the chargepoint provider founded by several major car makers including Ford, Mercedes and Volkswagen.

Leeds Skelton Lake is now host to 16 charging bays, while Extra’s portfolio of Ionity hubs includes its Cambridge services on the M11 and A14; Cobham, by J9/10 on the M25l and Peterborough by J17 of the A1(M).

Tom Dobson, Extra MSA’s chief executive, says the new devices “meet changing customer demand” and help “decarbonise the road network”.

Andreas Atkins, Ionity’s country manager for the UK and Ireland comments:

“Drivers want effortless, convenient experiences that allow them to recharge themselves as well as their vehicle,” adding: “Partnership with a brand like Extra is so important if we’re to deliver that kind of experience.”
