Chargepoint operator Fastned has been given the go ahead to construct a new 12-bay EV charging hub in Kilmarnock, 20 miles south-west of Glasgow.
The Dutch firm applied to East Ayrshire Council in December last year seeking permission to erect one of its distinctive hubs, complete with an unmanned kiosk providing restroom facilities, a small lounge and vending machines.
With the authority now having given Fastned approval for the project, the facility will be built close to a Premier Inn by the A71 main road that passes to the south of Kilmarnock. Electricity will be delivered by half a dozen Alpitronic Hyperchargers, capable of moving electrons at speeds of between 100 and 400kW.
One of Fastned’s ‘solar tree’ canopies will shield recharging cars and their drivers from the elements, with photovoltaic panels on the roof of this powering the charging hub’s systems.
