A filling station on a key transport route running all the way from Oxford Street in London to Fishguard in Wales has been purchased by an anonymous but “experienced” forecourt operator.

Glanusk Service Station is situated in Sennybridge on the A40 in Powys, Wales and, while in a remote location, is one of only two filling stations on a 20-mile stretch of the main road.

The business features a Murco forecourt and Londis shop, with both suppliers being retained, while a café and large car park offering significant scope for expansion were included in the sale.

Located on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, Glanusk is popular both with outdoorsy types, and motoring enthusiasts who appreciate the winding tarmac and striking views the area has to offer.

The firm buying the forecourt wishes to remain anonymous, but its acquisition is said to complement its “portfolio” of filling stations.

The vendors, meanwhile, Tim and Coral, decided to sell up so they could “semi-retire”, adding that they “have enjoyed serving the local community and motorists for 20 years”.

The pair thanked Dave Morris from Christie & Co, which brokered the sale, with Morris himself noting that “petrol stations in Wales remain popular, particularly in rural locations on busy A-roads as they often have limited competition.”

A spokesperson for the mystery buyer, meanwhile, remarked: “Glanusk is a great addition to our portfolio, and to get a freehold site with good potential is difficult in the current market.” The firm wished Tim and Coral “all the best for the future”.
