The campaign to scrap the fuel duty rise planned for April 1 gained momentum this week when TV presenter Quentin Willson delivered a personal letter to the Chancellor seeking the cancellation

of the duty rise in April. He was accompanied by the campaign team from Fair Fuel UK which claims to have collected 52,000 on-line signatures on its website fairfueluk.com, with 2,800 petition forms downloaded to date.

According to its website, the Fair Fuel UK campaign aims to force the Government to abandon the next increase in fuel duty planned for April – estimated by RMI Petrol as putting another five pence on a litre of fuel (which means a further 23p/gallon).

However the campaign also wants the Government to put in place a fuel price stabiliser, which it believes will to keep fuel costs down for the long term. Fair Fuel UK is also planning to lead a team of fuel campaigners pulling a 7 Ton truck up Whitehall to Downing Street at 11.00am on Monday February 14 as part of the nationwide Fair Fuel UK campaign. Quentin Willson said, "This is our Valentine’s Day message to the Prime Minister and Chancellor – ‘Have a Heart’.

Supporters of Fair Fuel UK include the Road Haulage Association, the Freight Transport Association and the RAC.
