Rippon will outline progress on the government’s e-motoring transition

At last year’s Summit, the government spelled out its plans for an electric transition on Britain’s roads. Twelve months on, the same senior official from the Department for Transport’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) will provide a progress report.

Stephen Rippon, who is deputy director at OZEV, has a brief that includes working with industry to improve charging infrastructure on the country’s strategic road network.

In the February 24 session he will outline how EV charging provision is growing and where there are still gaps; some of the ways it is changing with the emergence of more EV hubs; and the action government is taking to support eHGV charging, address grid capacity challenges, and review the cost of public charging.

Summit – A Roadway to Profit – takes place at The Belfry, in Sutton Coldfield. From parcel lockers to petrol pricing, forward-looking forecourt operators – including Top 50 Indies Penny Petroleum, Jos Richardson & Son, Park Garage Group, and Platinum Retail – will share insights into how they run successful businesses.

The keynote session for the day is an interview with a German forecourt operator and trade association representative on the impact of and lessons learned from a Fuel Finder-style scheme that has already been implemented in the country.

Meanwhile, Sarah Dunning, chair of the Westmorland motorway services group, will share how she has helped create the Tebay-based operator’s reputation for sustainable and distinctive retailing and hospitality.
