The Association of Convenience Store’s annual Summit conference will run alongside IFFE this year and features a one-hour breakout session focusing on Fuels of the Future.

ACS has partnered with RMI Petrol to give forecourt retailers an exclusive opportunity to debate the prospects of the sector in the ’Fuels of the Future’ session of Summit11.

One of the main questions of the day will be whether the industry is attempting to go green too early, and if electric or hydrogen or hybrids really provide the answers yet. There are over 30 million fossil fuelled vehicles keeping the UK economy moving at the moment, but where is the vehicle industry heading and what are the fuels for the future?

Chairing the session will be Brian Madderson, chairman of RMI Petrol, who has been at the forefront of the campaign to quash the planned duty rise on April 1, which could add another 5ppl to retail prices.

Madderson said: “With a lethal combination of tax hikes and oil price rises, we have seen record highs established at the pumps this year for both unleaded and diesel fuel. In this session, designed for forecourt retailers, we will explore the future of petrol retailing.”

Speakers also include Dr Peter Snowdon from Shell UK, Janet Ashdown from Harvest Energy and Mike Waters from Arval.

ACS chief executive James Lowman said: “This session is invaluable for forecourt retailers looking to gain exclusive insights into the future of their sector. RMIP are at the heart of sector talks with Government on forecourt issues and we are delighted to feature them at Summit11."
