The Greggs Express format is being trialled at MFG sites

Bakery and food-to-go chain Greggs has posted strong financial results, with profits up almost a quarter in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2025.

The firm turned over £1.1bn in H1 2026, with overall sales up 7.2% in company-operated shops, though franchised stores’ sales rose only 2.1%.

Operating profits stood at £86.5m for the first six months of the year, up from £70.4m in 2025, while pre-tax profits were £76m, up from £63.5m.

Some 34 new Greggs opened in H1 2026, bringing the total number of outlets to 2,773. Significant developments include a trial of the Greggs Express format, first introduced at MFG sites as part of the two firms’ longstanding partnership; alongside continued growth of Greggs’ loyalty scheme, with 31% of transactions seeing customers scan the firm’s app.

Roisin Currie, Greggs’ chief executive, says the company “continued to outperform the market and has delivered an improved sales performance and strong cost control through the first half of 2026, resulting in profitable growth”.

Referencing the new national distribution centres Greggs has built in Derby and Kettering, Currie adds: “We are making great progress in building the supply chain infrastructure that will support the significant growth opportunities that lie ahead.”
