A herd of Stags gathers at the Gulf Wivelsfield forecourt in West Sussex

A series of classic car designed to “celebrate the UK’s rich motoring heritage” has concluded after gatherings at five Gulf forecourts.

Enthusiasts From MG, Triumph, and other classic-car owners’ clubs came together at filling stations as far south as Haywards Heath, and as far north as Glasgow.

Owners brought all manner of classics to the meets, including a 1949 MG TC that has been in the same ownership for almost six decades, and a Triumph TR250, a US version of the popular TR5 sports car fitted with twin carburettors rather than fuel injection to meet emissions regulations across the pond at the time.

Triumph TRs made an impressive display on the Gulf Lichfield forecourt.

The meetings were held under the banner of Gulf’s ‘Big Journey’, and saw members of ths Glasgow Moggies, Durham MG and Classic Car Club, Cotswold Classic Car Club, TR Stoke Group and West Sussex Stag Owners Club join together at Gulf forecourts at Haywards Heath, Tewkesbury, Stoke, Durham and Glasgow.

Niall Taylor, senior marketing manager for Certas Energy, which owns Gulf UK, said the meets were “a huge success”. He emphasised Gulf’s longstanding association motorsport and automotive enthusiasts and thanked those who joined the event, concluding: “While there’s an ongoing focus on electric vehicles and creating a more sustainable future for the motoring industry, these classic cars remind us of where it all started.”

An MGA from the Durham MG and Classic Car Club makes a quick pit stop

Tony Ralph from TR Stoke Group said the event saw him join a ”perfect morning meet-up”, which generated “plenty of interest from the public”.

Tom Buckley, owner of Gulf Wivelsfield Service Station in West Sussex, which was one of the meeting points, said he and his team were ”thrilled to be able to provide a unique event like this for the community.”

He added: “We’d like to say thank you to the West Sussex Stag Owners Club for bringing their incredible vehicles to our open day. These cars are part of our history and it’s thanks to clubs such as these that we can still see them on our roads.”
