A company-owned Shell filling station in Hitchin, Herts, is to be knocked down and rebuilt, with the oil major applying to local authorities for planning consent.
Shell is looking to demolish the site’s shop, which offers only 400sq ft of retail space, erecting in its place a 1,600sq ft building with an 870sq ft sales area.
If given the go-ahead, the firm will also remove the canopy link to the existing shop, while replacing all pumps at the forecourt’s three islands, and adding new parking spaces.
A rollover car wash at the site will be retained, with Shell wanting to add two jet wash bays to its valeting offering.
The firm is working with French design and engineering firm Artelia on the project, cementing a partnership that began in 2008.
