Eight activists from Just Stop Oil (JSO) have been acquitted after they protested at two major petrol stations three years ago.
The action was part of a coordinated protest that saw 35 JSO activists arrested after they protested at Shell Cobham, the UK’s largest forecourt, and BP Clacket Lane, in April 2022.
Members of the group blocked the entrance to the Clacket Lane Services filling station, while those at Cobham glued themselves to the forecourt and climbed on top of an oil tanker.
A jury at Guildford Crown Court last week found eight defendants not guilty of intentionally or recklessly causing a public nuisance following the Cobham protest.
Two individuals were found guilty of causing criminal damage, however, while another was found guilty of intent to damage property, having been caught with a hammer.
In June last year two protestors were acquitted of causing criminal damage to pumps at Clacket Lane.
