The forecourt sits in the centre of a Shropshire market town

A Shropshire council is considering whether to issue a planning enforcement notice to EG On The Move over concerns one of its forecourts has been kitted out with “very fierce” lights.

The filling station, in the market town of Church Stretton, Shropshire, was previously an Applegreen filling station, but was purchased by EGOTM earlier this year.

The brightness of the site’s new lights, installed as part of a rebranding refurbishment, was raised as a point of discussion at a recent meeting of Church Streeton’s Town Council.

Council representatives asked if planning enforcement should be issued, the Shropshire Star reports, while also flagging that the forecourt sits in a conservation area, a dark skies area, and an area of outstanding natural beauty.

An EG On The Move spokesperson said the firm is aware of and investigating the concerns, commenting:

“EG on the Move is committed to being a respectful commercial neighbour in all the communities where we operate. We ensure that our sites comply with all relevant planning conditions and lighting regulations, including those relating to illumination levels and environmental impact.”
