The Northern Irish forecourt model puts convenience front and centre

Northern Irish convenience retail group Centra has opened a new £4m filling station in Portadown, 30 miles south-west of Belfast, creating 50 jobs in the process.

The Wilson’s Centra Carn Road forecourt sits close to two industrial estates and is owned by a local family retailing firm. It offers extensive hot food to go, an off licence, in-store bakery and ice cream counter.

Pete Wilson, the site’s owner, says his business is “committed to offering quality and convenience to the local community”, and that he is “delighted to welcome customers to our new store”.

David Higgins, retail sales director for Musgrave Northern Ireland, the 150-year-old distributor that runs the Centra chain of 480 stores, says his firm has “a long-standing relationship with the Wilson family”, and described the new store as “an asset to the community”.
